Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest cop action film, "Vettaiyan", stormed into cinemas last Thursday amidst immense anticipation. Directed by Gnanavel, the film has received a warm reception from both fans and critics, leading to a massive box office opening worldwide.
The big question on everyone’s mind is whether "Vettaiyan" has surpassed the collections of Thalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster "GOAT". According to reports, "Vettaiyan" has crossed the ₹200 crore mark globally in its opening weekend (four days). In comparison, "GOAT" had grossed over ₹288 crores worldwide within the same time frame, giving the Vijay-starrer a clear edge.
Despite this, "Vettaiyan" has set new records in Kerala, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 in just four days, a feat that "GOAT" could not achieve in the region. The Rajinikanth-starrer also did break even in Karnataka over its opening weekend and is trending well in the Telugu states, where it is doing better "GOAT".
However, in Tamil Nadu and overseas, "Vettaiyan" has yet to overtake "GOAT", with collections in Tamil Nadu being affected by heavy rains in parts of the state. As "Vettaiyan" continues its box office run, all eyes are on how it will perform in the coming days and whether it can close the gap with "GOAT".
