Dia Mirza opens up about a serious issue in Bollywood

Actress Dia Mirza is quite progressive with her thoughts. She has spoken about feminism and some toxic issues with are inherent in Bollywood. Recently, Dia opened up about the deep rooted issue of sexism in Bollywood. She described how exhausting it was for her to be among people who were thinking and creating sexist cinema. She even went on to say that her debut film 'Rehnna Hai Terre Dil Mein' had the same issue.

Dia said, "When I started working in films, there were at best only 4 or 5 women on any given film crew with a unit strength of over 120, sometimes 180 people. There would just never be any female representation on a film crew, so the gender ratio was skewed. Nobody really cared about it. We live in a patriarchal society, and it is an industry that is largely led by men. So there is rampant sexism. And I think for a large part, it is not even conscious sexism because there are so many men who are writers, who are directors, who are actors, who are not even aware of their sexist thinking.”

She further added, “I am sure things have improved now because there’s been just so much advocacy work and an improved understanding of what patriarchy is and what sexism is that people know better now."
