Dhoom franchise director Sanjay Ghadvi passes away, leaves all in tears

Renowned filmmaker Sanjay Gadhvi, best known for his directorial ventures Dhoom and Dhoom 2, passed away at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, November 19, leaving behind a legacy in Indian cinema. The news was shared by his daughter, Sanjina Gadhvi, as reported by PTI. Gadhvi, aged 56 at the time of his demise, would have celebrated his 57th birthday in just three days.

Despite being in seemingly good health, Gadhvi succumbed to an unexpected tragedy, possibly a heart attack, according to his daughter. His directorial journey commenced in 2000 with Tere Liye, followed by Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in 2002, marking his collaboration with Yash Raj Films for the first time.

Sanjay Gadhvi gained widespread acclaim with his third directorial venture, the action-packed thriller Dhoom, which not only captured the audience’s imagination but also popularized motorbiking culture among Indian youth in the early 2000s. The 2006 sequel, Dhoom 2, featured a stellar cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Bipasha Basu.

Survived by his wife Gina and two daughters, Sanjina being the elder one, Gadhvi continued to contribute to Indian cinema with films like Kidnap (2008), Ajab Gazabb Love (2012), and Operation Parindey, his final directorial released in 2020.Abhishek Bachchan, who collaborated with Gadhvi in all three Dhoom films, expressed his shock and grief on Instagram, reminiscing about their shared experiences and acknowledging the pivotal role Gadhvi played in his career. The actor conveyed his deep appreciation for Gadhvi’s faith in him and credited the filmmaker for giving him his first-ever hit. In a poignant farewell, Abhishek wrote, “I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother.” The untimely demise of Sanjay Gadhvi marks the end of an era in Indian filmmaking. Condolences are pouring in from all quarters to the members of the bereaved family.
