India has started the WC with a win and MS Dhoni has played a crucial role in the game contributing with the bat and behind the stumps. In the match against South Africa, Andile Phehlukwayo was sent off the field by Dhoni’s quick stumping, bringing Chahal his fourth wicket. Though the ball did not rest cleanly in his hands and he fumbled for a second, his lightning quick speed made it possible for him to get the batsman out anyway.
Now Dhoni has become the wicketkeeper with the third highest number of dismissals (33) in World Cups following Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka (54) and Adam Gilchrist from Australia (52). He is also the only player to keep wickets in 600 international innings. Another aspect of his keeping which impressed fans was his gloves. Dhoni was found to be wearing gloves that sported the Army's "Balidan" (sacrifice) badge which symbolizes the regimental dagger of the Indian Para Special Forces. Fans praised their Thala for his love for the nation and the army. The former captain who has received an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel has often shared that he wanted to join the forces.
