In times of lockdown, two influential persons and their companions could go on a picnic! This has come as a shameful incident at a time when paramedics, doctors, policemen and other warriors are putting their lives at risk to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL) group were on Thursday night detained after they were spotted at their farmhouse in Mahabaleswar with 21 others. The police came there after being informed by locals that a group of people was vacationing there.
The SP of Satara has said that the 23 individuals have been quarantined at a government hospital. They have been booked under Sections 188, 269 and 270 of the Indian Penal Code as well as relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act for violating the lockdown.
There is more to the story. Senior journalist Megha Prasad asks, "Uddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Anil Deshmukh need to answer this. Just how did the principal secretary of the Home Department of Maharashtra write a letter allowing the travel of wanted accused Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, against whom CBI has issued lookout notice, to Mahabaleshwar?"
