A shocking report has come to light from Mumbai's Dharavi as five Covid-19 patients who were treated successfully for the infection died after being discharged from the hospital as recovered patients.
The five deceased individuals had reportedly completed their 14-day quarantine at the respective hospitals and were discharged over a month ago after testing negative for the virus twice. Dharavi is the worst affected slum in Mumbai with over 800 infected patients. Families of the deceased patients apparently received death certificates that mentioned Covid-19 as the cause of death. Infected patients in other countries, including South Korea and China, had to return to hospitals after recovery following relapse of the symptoms. Studies regarding reinfection of coronavirus are currently being conducted in New York. "These five were admitted to hospital after they tested positive. Now we have been carrying out a follow-up of all the patients that tested positive and were discharged since the first case was reported on April 1 (in Dharavi) when we found that five had passed away. We have asked their family members to provide us with the death certificate." a local civil official reportedly informed a news agency.
As on May 8, a total of 59832 cases have been registered across India and 1987 people have died. Tamil Nadu has reported 6009 cases and 40 deaths.
