In his reply to the letter of former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss actor Dhanush has assured that henceforth he will not smoke in his films.

The recent release of the National award winning actor Maari` portrays him as a chain smoker who keeps smoking in most of the scenes in the film. This apart from leading to criticisms from a section of movie buffs and reviewers had also attracted a letter from Anbumani whose party has been campaigning against liquor and tobacco products for more than ten years now.

Anbumani in his letter had requested Dhanush to stop smoking in films following the footprints of his father-in-law and Superstar Rajinikanth who has quit smoking and also stopped doing it in his films that released after Baba`.

Dhansuh has immediately replied with a letter to Anbumani in which he has stated that he was not a smoker in real life and smoked in Maari` only because the character demanded. He also assured that henceforth he will not resort to on screen smoking also.

Apart from Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Suryah have announced that they will never smoke in their films.
