Yesterday marked the 13th anniversary of release of Pudhupettai, the gangster drama directed by Selvaraghavan and starring Dhanush, Sneha, Sonia Agarwal, Bala Singh. The movie had magical music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and stunning cinematography by Arvind Krishna, and Selva's making has been appreciated even now.

Though the film was critically well received, it was not a commercial success and it was way ahead of its times that, in re-releases of the movie, Pudhupettai had been celebrated even more by fans all over. The movie also had the highlight of being one of the earliest movies to feature Vijay Sethupathi, and also had Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan singing a song.

On the 13th year of Pudhupettai's release, Dhanush posted a proud and emotional tweet that read "13 years of Pudhupettai .. a true cult classic from the master film maker Selvaraghavan .. will always feel proud to have been a part of this epic. Thank you all for celebrating this film and Kokki kumar even after 13 years. Overwhelmed." Selvaraghavan's next, NGK releases on May 31, while Dhanush's next Pakkiri releases on June 21.
