The Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj combo gave Indian cinema the pathbreaking movie 'Karnan' produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. The socio political action thriller received high critical praise and was a huge box office hit. A few days back Dhanush officially announced that he is reviving his production house Wunderbar Films and Mari Selvaraj will be directing the company's comeback film.
Now Kollywood is abuzz with the news that Mari Selvaraj has planned to cast Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu in a pivotal character in the as yet untitled project. He has apparently built a solid rapport with the comedy legend during the filming of 'Maamannan' which helped make this possible.
So far Dhanush in his over two decade old career has never shared screen space with Vadivelu. The one time it almost happened was when Vadivelu was cast as Assault Armughan in Dhanush's super hit movie 'Padikathavan' released in 2009. However after a few days of shooting Vadivelu walked out of the project due to creative differences and the late Vivek replaced him and brought the house down with his comedy. Assault Armugham remains one of Vivek's best ever characters that entertained all sections of the audiences and is still watched on YouTube and TV.
The Dhanush-Mari Selvaraj movie script was finalised during the making of 'Karnan' itself but it could take another year to go on floors. Mari Selvaraj has two films 'Maamannan' and 'Vaazhai' ready for release. He will next direct a sports drama with Dhruv Vikram in the lead.
Dhanush on the other hand is currently shooting for 'Captain Miller' directed by Arun Matheswaran. He will next begin his milestone 50th film which he will also direct with S.J. Suryah, Vishnu Vishal, Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan in the lead roles.
