Whenever a film highlighting a social issue succeeds in the box office, people would ask what the makers have done to eradicate the problem apart from making a film and gaining profit? In cases of films speaking about the plight of children people would expect the makers to help the education of children who acted in such films.
The recent super hit and critically acclaimed Kakka Muttai` is no exception to this. Speaking in an interview, the film`s director Manikandan has said that many people asked the producers to help the children who acted in lead characters go to a school and study. The makers had to clarify that the children are not slum dwellers in real life and they are already undergoing their schooling.
Manikandan also clarified that the kids who acted as Chinna Kakka Muttai` and Periya Kakka Muttai` in the film were paid a salary that is thre times higher than what is usually paid for child artists. The highly acclaimed director also noted that all the six kids were paid the same amount as salary irrespective of the length of the role as against the general practice of paying supporting actors based on the screen time they appear in the film.
Manikanadan added that the producer Dhanush and Vetrimaran have undertaken the expenditure until college education of not just the two kids who played the lead roles but also the other four kids who played supporting roles in the film.
Those who called the makers and offered financial aid/gifts for the kids who acted in the film were asked to do it for the kids who are underprivileged in real life.
For kind men like Dhanush and Vetrimaran its the contribution and not the quantity that matters.
