The Trailer of 'Dhadak' (Hindi), starring Janhvi Kapoor (late Sridevi's daughter makes a grand debut) and Ishaan in the lead roles, is out. Touted to be a "young, pure, unconditional and a fierce first love that fights fate", the film tells the love story of two youngsters torn between society and families.
A remake of the blockbuster Marathi film 'Sairat', the trailer comes off as a dumbed down version of what it could have been. It has been critiqued and trolled on social media ever since its release on Monday.
@RoflGandhi_ said, "Regional cinema is soulful, it captures the dialect and earthen humor so well. A Bollywood remake is almost a parody by ham actors and a khichdi of local dialect and Hindi."
One 2am Philosopher noted, "Ugh! Karan Johar (producer), you should have taken another Chetan Bhagat novel to make with the 'star kids' instead of ruining Sairat. Anyway, their careers don't depend on this one movie as long as you're there."
Another user noted, "The Trailer is a perfect example of how a classic like Sairat can be spoiled by making it so-called larger than life with star kids! I don't want to tamper my memories of Sairat. So Dhadak is a big no no!!"
The romantic drama will hit the cinemas on July 20.
