It's known that the Jagan government is going to develop an online ticketing portal through which movie tickets can be booked by the audience. Amidst the rumour that the government will be exerting extreme control on the theatre business by weaponizing the portal, filmmaker Deva Katta has questioned the logic behind the move.
In a series of tweets, the 'Republic' director asked, "Does this new government ticketing set-up means making a movie is like investing into a government contract and later wait in line endlessly to get the bills cleared?" It's said that the government will collect the revenue from ticket sales and refund the money to producers at a later date.
Katta added that the government sells railway tickets so that the money can be credited into the account of the Railways, which is a public sector. The 'Prasthanam' director then asked, "Is the AP government going to fund all the movies to have such revenue routing control over a product that a private entity has invested in?" Katta asked.
The director awaits the release of 'Republic' on October 1. Starring Sai Dharam Tej as the hero, it also has Ramya Krishna, Jagapathi Babu and others in key roles.
