It’s been almost 7 years since the world’s best villain Gru arrived, the third film in the franchise is here again with Gru, his three darling daughters, Lucy and of course how could we ignore the gorgeous little devils – MINIONS. With Gru’s brother Dru joining the fun league, entertainment just got bigger and the squeeze for more juicy comical antics just got bigger.

Despicable Me 3 works big time for its entertainment factor, usually when a franchise gets old by 2 or more movies the characters sink into you so much that one small mistake and it gets rather too personal. How the story evolves too becomes a challenge, the last part of ICEAGE was one bad example of things going haywire. However in DM3, the makers have regrouped by introducing Dru, a twin brother who looks to join hands with Gru and keep the family heist tradition going on even though Gru is now very much a changed man. The concept of meeting a long last brother after ages is a done and dusted plot, yet it has been dealt with clean quirkiness, full on entertainment factor with a pinch of emotional content.

With Gru and Dru joining hands, or rather fighting out each other with word, saving each other’s life, their war of words it’s just fun all the way. Keeping the nativity of the usual brother quarrel, the comical version in capturing the diamond that could save humanity is simply hilarious. Despicable me franchise also won for its good casting of an efficient villain, here is Balthazar Bratt the new baddie who gets into a Hollywood character, the brothers set off to stop the madness with a whole lot of craziness. Despicable Me is never done and complete without these character(s). To an extent we start thinking the main reason why DM series works is because of these cute little yellow darlings, yes we are talking about the MINIONS. We have seen them in a full fledge film, in two parts of DM and loads of commercials yet can never get enough of them at all. With an extended role in Despicable Me 3 they lead the way with their funny gimmicks. The three kids and Lucy are adorable as it could get, they are still fresh and sweet as we remember them from the first part.

That said, the entire episode of DM3 is usual, the entertainment is high, jokes are good and all that, but you get a sense of "So what else is new?". How the producers will keep the franchise going would be the biggest guess, maybe by introducing new characters like the twin brother or even more. This has minimal effect on the film’s happy quotient, surely not to affect its Box Office. The 3D portions are done with perfection aided by some chuckling Background score.

The film is releasing in regional languages in India too, watch it for its freakish translation that should bring out quite a number of giggles here and there.

Verdict : Fun and Frolic all the way

Rating: 3 / 5.0
