DMDK president Vijayakanth has stated that the spread of the dengue disease and the inability of the State Govt. to handle this medical emergency might force the ordering of interim Assembly polls across the State very soon.

Dengue has been taking a huge toll of precious human lives across the State in the past few weeks even as the State has been grappling with the crisis, hoping that it would soon come to an end. Under its ‘Let’s do it for the needy’ initiative, the DMDK cadres have been visiting Govt. Hospitals in all the District headquarters and offering all possible help to the people affected by dengue.

Vijayakanth called on patients receiving treatment for dengue at the Tiruvallur Govt. Hospital, provided them fruits and bread. He later visited women’s ward and inquired about their well-being and the mode of treatment offered to them.  He also distributed ‘Nilavembu Kashayam’ to people at Theradi and Bazaar Street in Tiruvallur.  He later visited the Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai to inspect the treatment.

Speaking to newsmen, Vijayakanth said that it wasn’t enough to provide mere Rs.2000 to those affected by dengue. “The amount should be increased multifold,” he said and appealed to the Centre to consider sanctioning more amount to fight dengue. To another query whether DMDK would contest the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls, he said the party won’t contest the by-polls.

He then added that ‘dengue’ might even force conduct of interim Assembly polls across the State.
