Union Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh has said that democracy in the country would be ‘safe’ only till Hindus remain the majority among the population.
Of late, BJP leaders as well as Union Ministers have been making some controversial statements. Singh’s remark linking the safety of Indian democracy to Hindus being dominant (in population) is likely to add to the party’s embarrassment at a time when it is getting ready to retain power for the fifth consecutive time in Gujarat is to vote in two phases on 09th and 14th December.
“India would be safe only as long as Hindus remain the majority here; if Hindus’ population starts decreasing when compared to other communities, it would spell danger for democracy,” Singh said and added that 54 Districts in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal and Kerala have already reported decline in the population of Hindus.
“This is a threat to the country’s sovereignty as it has been noted that social harmony has been affected in places where Hindus’ population has decreased,” he said and added that while the population of Muslims in India had increased considerable, the population of Hindus in Pakistan had come down noticeably since Partition.
