It has been reported by sections of media that a mosque in Delhi's Ashok Nagar was damaged and set on fire late on Tuesday afternoon by a mob. The reports have claimed that the mob was heard shouting “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hinduon ka Hindustan” as they resorted to vandalism.
Turns out that the news is totally fake. The DCP of North West Delhi has issued a statement condemning the reports. "Some false information/news item has been circulating regarding damage to a mosque in Ashok Vihar area. It is to clarify that no such incident has taken place in the area of Ashok Vihar. Please do not spread false information," the statement said.
Several Twitter handles, including of senior journalists, have recklessly tweeted out a video clip of a mosque minaret being vandalized to 'corroborate' their imaginary claim. This apparently is an old video clip from Bihar.
