The Delhi High Court has tossed out a petition filed with it by NCT of Delhi chief-minister Arvind Kejriwal in a defamation suit filed against him by Union Home Minister Arun Jaitley.
Jaitley had accused six persons including Kejriwal, Raghav Sadha, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Deepal Bajpai seeking compensation of Rs.10 crores for damaging his name and fame and brining disrepute to his political career by wrongly alleging that he (Jaitley) had committed financial irregularities while holding the post of president of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 2000 to 2003.
Popular advocate and former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani appeared on behalf of Kejriwal during the hearing in the case held in May but later opted out of the case after he developed some serious misunderstanding with his client Arvind Kejriwal who later requested the Court to ask for furnishing details of all DDCA meetings held from 1999 to 2014.
Taking strong objection to Kejriwal’s reuest, Jaitley’s counsel told the Court that it was apparent that such an undue request was being put to the Court merely to delay the interrogation of the case. Accepting the argument, the Delhi High Court tossed out Kejriwal's petition.
