A Family Court in New Delhi awarded divorce to expelled AIADMK Rajya Sabha M.P. Sasikala Pushpa from her husband Lingeswara Thilakan.
Hailing from Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, the 41-year old Parliamentarian and her husband Thilakan had filed separate requests with the Family Court in Dwarka, New Delhi. Justice P.R. Kedia had been conducting the trial in the case in which the divorce decree was issued yesterday with the Judge telling Sasikala and Thilakan to meet their respective legal costs culminating in divorce.
Sasikala, born in Mudhaloor Adaiyal Village in Tuticorin, completed B.Ed. and was looking for a teacher’s job when she got married to Thilanak of Uvari Village in Tirunelveli District when she was just 19 years of age. After marriage, she worked as teacher at a private school in Chennai where her husband worked as an electrician. Somehow, she struck contacts at the right levels in Govt. and became the Mayor of Tuticorin in 2011.
She was then made a Rajya Sabha M.P. and also the secretary of the women’s wing of AIADMK in the State. Sasikala then had a clash with Trichy Siva at New Delhi Airport, slapped him and was later summoned by the then chief-minister Jayalalithaa to Chennai where she claimed she was kept at house arrest for a few days. She later cried in the Rajya Sabha stating that she was slapped by Jayalalithaa.
Soon after, she was expelled by Jayalalithaa a couple of months before the latter fell ill and passed away in December, 2016. Sasikala Pushpa, who had been warning of Jayalalithaa’s former aide Sasikala’s ‘evil designs’ for a long time now, finally got the divorce decree yesterday, separating her legally from Lingeswara Thilakan.
