Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who pulled out of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League due to injury, took to social media to announce that his surgery was a success and that he is on the road to recovery.
Posing from the hospital bed with a thumbs-up following the surgery, Shreyas Iyer said, "Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I'll be back in no time Thank you for your wishes." During India's first ODI match against England in Pune, the batsman was taken for scans after he left the field during the eighth over of the England innings and the BCCI later informed that he had subluxated (partially dislocated) his left shoulder. A BCCI source also informed a news agency that Shreyas Iyer will have to undergo surgery on his left shoulder, which will keep him away from the game for at least four months. "He will have to go under the knife. So, it looks not just the first part of IPL but Iyer will miss the entire IPL. It might take a minimum four months before he can hit the nets again. He has been under severe pain," the BCCI source was quoted as saying.
In Shreyas Iyer's absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as Delhi Capital's standby captain. Under Iyer's captaincy, Delhi Capitals finished in the second position in IPL 2020 after exhibiting a consistent performance throughout the tournament.
