A man from outer Delhi has been arrested on charges of kidnapping a 9-year-old girl, in an attempt to force her mother to marry him after months of stalking.
The girl’s mother has been residing in outer Delhi’s Budh Vihar along with her four children after her husband abandoned the family three years ago. She had hired the accused, identified as Kamlesh, to repair a leak in the ceiling of the room, following which he constantly pressurized her to marry him. After months of stalking despite the woman's refusal, he lured her daughter, promising to take her sight-seeing around Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and was caught by the police at an Uttar Pradesh railway station after the girl’s mother had registered a kidnapping case.
“He had boarded a train from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station the same night. But before he could reach his home town, we had tracked his movement and alerted the Uttar Pradesh police. The government railway police (GRP) personnel caught Kamlesh and safely rescued the girl when they got off the train at the Mahoba railway station on Monday morning,” an official involved in the investigation stated.
12 teams comprising of 75 police personnel were reportedly formed to rescue the young girl. The accused was tracked and located after the police scanned a nearby CCTV camera which showed the girl riding pillion on a motorcycle with the man.
