A woman who jumped off the Meethapur Canal in Delhi along with her baby was saved from drowning by an auto driver who happened to be passing by the bridge. In the process, the driver lost his own life.

Pawan Shah (30) was heading back home after dropping off a passenger when he saw that a woman was jumping off the bridge with a baby. Without second thoughts, the auto driver jumped in to save the duo from drowning. Pawan, who then shouted for help, was noticed by three men who formed a human chain to save the trio. They managed to get the woman and her baby out safely, but it was too late for Pawan who was pulled in too deep by a strong current.

The woman and her baby, who were then rushed to the hospital, were declared safe. She had tried to commit suicide after an argument with her husband, according to the police. The DCP of southeast added that he had recommended Pawan Shah's name for Jiwan Raksha Bravery Awards.
