Army soldier battling cancer tests positive for coronavirus, commits suicide

A 31-year-old army jawan, who had been battling lung cancer, ended his life at the premises of a hospital in Delhi after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The soldier, who hailed from Maharashtra, was posted at the Itarana Cantt in the Alwar district of Rajasthan and was being treated at the military-run Base Hospital after he diagnosed with Covid-19. The police arrived at the spot after they received information about the incident at 4 am. On visiting the spot, the jawan was found dead behind the COVID-19 ward of the hospital. He was last seen around 1 am today when he went to the washroom behind the COVID-19 ward. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the hospital, His family members in Alwar have been informed and postmortem will be conducted in their presence, a police officer reportedly stated.

The police added that they did not find a suicide note in the location, but suspect that he decided to take the extreme step due to distress over his illness.
