UTV Motion Pictures Bring Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi-6 Back to Dubai with the lead performers Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in attendance.
UTV Motion Pictures in association with The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced the Middle East premiere of 'Delhi-6', the keenly awaited collaboration of UTV Motion Pictures and BAFTA-nominated director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (Rang De Basanti), at a special evening in Dubai on February 18.
The film's cast, including super-star Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, will be present at the DIFF premiere ahead of the Middle East release on February 19th. The first glimpses of the upcoming blockbuster were shown in December at DIFF's fifth edition before an audience of international press and visitors.
DIFF Artistic Director Masoud Amralla al Ali stated: "Since our first edition, DIFF has been committed to showcasing the best of Indian cinema and Bollywood, one of the most dynamic and exciting filmmaking centres in the world. Not only is Dubai home to a large Indian population, bringing in massive box office returns for Indian films, but the city's location between East and West allows DIFF to introduce our guests from the Middle East and abroad to India's rich cinema culture. 'Delhi 6', with its themes of community, belonging and love, falls perfectly in line with DIFF's credo, 'Building Bridges, Meeting Minds.' We are honoured to provide a platform for UTV and Rakeysh Mehra to share their newest great collaboration with Dubai audiences."
UTV Motion Pictures, CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said: "Due to the overwhelming response in the UAE to our previous films, we have seen that Dubai, as the regional film centre, is a major market for us where cinema lovers of many nationalities appreciate the passion and insight of filmmakers like Rakeysh. We are looking forward to revisiting Dubai, where we gave DIFF audiences the first glimpse of the film, to show the finished work which will be released wide on February 19th by our distribution partners Al Mansoor."
Epigram Middle East was set up during the end of last year as an extension of its India operations. Says Nabeel Abbas, Epigram's CEO: "Dubai is the entertainment hub of the Middle East, and as an extension of the role we play in creating innovative communication strategies for fine Indian cinema, we realised that it was about time we start operations in Dubai. 'Delhi 6' is our first Middle East promotion which we are extremely proud of. It is an honour to have the opportunity to associate with UTV Motion Pictures in bringing Rakeysh Mehra post 'Rang De Basanti' for his film's premiere screening to Dubai, along with his stars Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor."
The film follows American-born Roshan (Bachchan), who brings his ailing grandmother back to India. Little does he know that the quick trip will turn into the longest journey of his lifea journey within. The backdrop of the story is the ancient walled city of Delhi, which represents the chaos, religion, beliefs and ethos of the Indian people. They are Roshan's people, and will teach him things about himself he never could have imagined. The pin code of the city is 110006, and with pride of love they call her 'Delhi-6'.
The premiere will take place at the Grand Cineplex on 18th February at 7 pm. Hospitality partners for the event are Rivington Grill at Souk Al Bahar and The Intercontinental Hotel at Dubai Festival City. Zee TV is the Television partner.
