Deepika Padukone the reigning queen of Bollywood made a sudden visit to the Jawaharlal Nehru University premises in New Delhi and was with the student protestors there for about ten minutes showing her solidarity and left without speaking anything. The protests are going on against the CAA and NRC for some time now and the brutal attack on them by unknown people has become a heated debate across the country.
Deepika earlier had stated to a media house that she is glad to see that people are coming down to the streets and protesting and airing their views. However social media reaction to the 'Padmavat' star is divided as one section hails her as a hero while the other vilifies her alleging that she is using the protests to promote her upcoming film 'Chhapaak'. There is also a call to boycott the film mostly by supporters of the ruling central government.
'Chhapaak' directed by Meghna Gulzar which releases on January 10th has Deepika Padukone playing the role of real-life acid attack survivor Lakshmi Agarwal.
