Deepika Padukone the hottest heroine of Indian cinema is producing and acting as Laxmi Agarwal the acid attack survivor who headed a movement against the sale of acids freely which was later banned by the Supreme Court. Laxmi was 15 when and was waiting at a bus stop near her school when her 32 year old attacker who harboured one sided feelings for her threw acid on her. Being a brave child she weathered the storm even though her beautiful face turned hideous but went on to fight so that others were saved.
Laxmi received the International Woman of Courage Award from Michelle Obama also took the bold step of challenging societal norms by entering into a live in relaationship with social activist Alok Dixit because people will comment about her face.
Meghana Gulzar is directing the untitled film and she has stated to the press that Deepika was her first choice because her physicality matched that of Lakshmi and is capable of doing complete justice to the role.
