Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is all set for the release of her upcoming movie 'Chhapaak', based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, directed by Meghna Gulzar.

Deepika Padukone, along with playing the lead role, has also bankrolled Chhapaak, in collaboration with Fox Star Studios. The launch of the title song of the film happened in Mumbai earlier today, and a reporter is seen quizzing Deepika about her husband Ranveer Singh's investment in the movie when an enraged Deepika responds that it is her money that she has invested and the director joins in to add that it was not right to assume such things. Several users have criticized the journalist for his 'misogynistic question', claiming that married actresses are usually asked that.

Stating that she was moved by acid-attack survivor Laxmi's story and instantly agreed to be part of Meghna's project, Deepika mentioned in an earlier interview to a news agency, "Meghna came to me with the script and I was instantly drawn to Meghna's honesty, to Laxmi's story and her journey. I felt like it was very, very powerful and I felt like as an actor, I definitely wanted to be a part of the film. Even as a person, I felt like there's a really strong narrative in Laxmi’s life, and I wanted the world to see that."
