If you want to be in Deepa Mehta’s good books, make sure you don’t ask her if her film Heaven On Earth is comparable to Jagmohan Mundhra's Provoked. The prominent director with a proclivity for showcasing social issues is simply fed up with all the comparisons.

Mehta asserts that just because Heaven On Earth is about domestic violence, it doesn’t mean that Provoked was her guidebook! She also points out that people should first watch her movie before giving their opinions.

The director of Provoked, on the other hand, confesses that he’s glad his movie has become a yardstick for all films on domestic abuse. Mundhra hasn’t watched Mehta’s work yet, but believes that domestic violence shouldn’t become just another tried-and tested formula for filmmakers to cash in on.
