A bill for providing death penalty for men who rape girls below the age of twelve years has been introduced by Rajasthan. The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill 2018 was introduced in the assembly on Friday.

The bill appeals for a section 376-AA in the Indian Penal Code that states: Punishment for rape on a woman up to twelve years of age. Whoever commits rape on a woman up to twelve years of age shall be punished with death, or rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than fourteen years but which may extend to imprisonment for life which shall mean imprisonment for the remainder of that person’s natural life, and shall also be liable to fine.

According to the bill, the convict cannot leave the prison even after 14 years of imprisonment. It is also noteworthy here that even states like Maharashtra and Kerala are considering death penalty for child rapists.
