The body of a dead Tamil soldier was recovered from beneath the avalanche six days after he and four other soldiers were buried alive in Jammu & Kashmir near the ‘Line of Control’ with Pakistan. Search is on to trace four more bodies of soldiers.
Three soldiers were manning vantage positions along the LOC in North Kashmir on 13th December when they were caught in an avalanche which broke out on that day. All the three soldiers were trapped into the avalanche. On the same day, two more soldiers were caught in another avalanche in Kupwara District and went missing.
Search was on for the past six days to trace the missing soldiers. In the meantime, one of the bodies of the soldiers was recovered last evening. It turned out that he was N. Moorthy from Tamil Nadu, who was part of the 36th battalion of the prestigious Rashtriya Rifles.
Now that Moorthy’s body has been traced and located, the Army is gearing up to hand it over to his family members.
