We had already updated you that DC's 'Shazam 2' shoot was wrapped up last month. 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' is the sequel to the superhero film 'Shazam!' based on the DC Comic character of the same name. The first part was released in April 2019 and garnered success at the box office. David F. Sandberg, who directed the first installment, is also directing the second part with screenplay by Henry Gayden.
Now, the latest news is that the first footage from Shazam 2 has debuted at the DC FanDome 2021. Zachary Levi who plays the titular role of Shazam has shared the BTS featurette with the fans in the event. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the fourteenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The principal cast of the first film will return for the sequel too.
'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' will pick up where the original film left off, which Batson’s foster family now all wielding the power to transform into superheroes. In 2021, actress Rachel Zegler joined the cast of the sequel to play a mysterious key role while Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu roped in the star cast the villainesses 'Hespera' and 'Kalypso'. The highlight of the featurette is the glimpse into the first looks of Hespera and Kalypso.
Neither of the baddies is a character from the Shazam! comics, but both villains are daughters of the Greek Titan Atlas, one of the heroes from Greek mythology that contributes to the acronym Shazam and gives power to him. The video had all Greek references like minotaurs and harpies, locations such as Athens, and even a teen love story in between. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now scheduled to release on June 2, 2023.
The footage was action-packed to the core, with several high octane sequences of blasts, car crashes, dragons, and the various Gods. The cast also includes Jack Dylan Grazer in the role of Frederick Freeman, Djimon Hounsou as Shazam, Rachel Zegler, Meagan Good, Adam Brody, Grace Fulton, DJ Cotrona, Ross Butler, and Marta Milans.
