The ‘Vacuum Challenge’ or the ‘Trash Bag Challenge’ is the latest social media hype that people are succumbing to. This involves one person stepping into a bin bag and another sucking out the air with a vacuum cleaner. The material then sticks to the body very tightly. Sometimes this is tight enough for the person to fall over. This dangerous challenge is being followed by many of all ages.

Experts have declared the challenge as possibly fatal as it can lead to cerebral hypoxia in which the oxygen supply to the brain is decreased. Brain cells can die within 5 minutes of reduced oxygen supply according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Some participants have been taking on the challenge alone and this makes the risk even higher as they may not be able to move at all.
