'Dangal' is 'Second Best of the year' in Chennai

Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' which released on December 23 after winning unanimous thumbs up from critics with a pre-release press screening has taken Chennai Box Office by storm. The film directed by Nitish Tiwari has collected a above Rs.1 crore in its first three day weekend at the Chennai Box Office which is a phenomenal record only achieved by a few films of top stars of Kollywood this year. .

With 256 shows across 15 screens ( for both Hindi and dubbed Tamil versions) 'Dangal' has collected Rs.1,01,30,540 with 95% occupancy. Trade calls it as an 'Excellent Opening' and the second best of the year for a non Tamil film after 'M.S.Dhoni-The Untold Story'.

The biggest releases among direct Tamil films last weekwas Vishal-Tamannah starrer 'Kaththi Sandai'. The Suraaj directorial was screened in 23 screens across the city limits and has had 279 screenings in its first three days. With a good 85% occupancy, the film has registered a opening weekend collection over Rs.91,17,630 in Chennai BO. This is rated as a 'Good Opening' and the 'Best for Vishal'.

Sasikumar's fourth release of the year-'Balle Vellaiya Thevaa' has had a Below Average opening. The film released in 19 theatres in the Metro city has collected Rs. 36,57,340 with 70% occupancy in 207 shows over its first three days.

Despite the slew of new releases, director Venkat Prabhu's 'Chennai 600028 II' continues to have his merry at Chennai BO. In its fourth weekend, the film has managed to get a great 90% occupancy and collected Rs.14,15,920 thereby making it a Blockbuster.
