Just a few hours before Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was scheduled to launch a part of the Rs.389 crore dam constructed recently, the dam crashed during its test runs. The destruction caused the native parts of Bhagalpur flooding as people ran amok in shock. With already 40 years of delay, the Ganga Canal project inauguration was cancelled by the Chief Minister office which also quoted technical issues for cancelling the event.

The crash also came under severe criticism with many minister hinting corruption at its peak and the reason behind mediocre materials used for construction. The Dam is a joint project for Bihar and Jharkhand people which will benefit over 22000 hectares of land from both the states.
