A cyclone warning cage bearing No.3 has been hoisted at Pamban Port in Rameswaram Taluk of Ramanathapuram District in the State.
Some parts of the Southern Districts in the State have been receiving mild rains in view of the low depression which has formed in south-west Bay of Bengal and which is gaining momentum now. Fishermen along the coastal Districts of Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin and Kanniyakumar have been warned not to venture into the sea.
The sea is rough with tidal waves along the coast in Rameswaram, Dhanushkodi and Pamban where the wind-speed has also increased considerably. Fishermen chose not to take to seas at Rameswaram, Pamban and Mandapam localities which were lashed by heavy rains along with high-speed winds yesterday. Tidal waves reminded the people of the 2004 Tsunami tragedy.
More than 3,000 fishermen at Rameswaram stayed off duty yesterday as their 600-odd boats remained anchored along coast. In view of the extreme climatic conditions, the fishermen couldn’t venture into the seas for the fourth day yesterday. In the meantime, cyclone warning cage No.3 has been hoisted at Pampan Port.
