The government of India has come in for praise from the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (ODRR) for successfully following the policy of zero deaths at the time of natural calamities like Cyclone Fani.  

The UN body has also given a pat for the "pinpoint accuracy of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) early warning system".

It has to be mentioned that even in Odisha, the number of casualties is less than 10.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today spoke of the coordination and disaster management taken up by different agencies. "A record of 1.2 million people were evacuated in 24 hours, 3.2 lakh from Ganjam, 1.3 lakh from Puri and almost 7000 kitchens catering to 9000 shelters were made functional overnight. This mammoth exercise involved more than 45,000 volunteers," he said today .

In all 1.9 million people were evacuated by NDRF, etc.
