MS Dhoni to play for CSK in IPL 2022? Team official answers

While the Chennai Super Kings team is all set for the playoffs of the 14th edition of Indian Premier League, there are a lot of uncertainties around Dhoni’s future as an IPL player. While a number of viewers feel that Dhoni’s time as a cricketer is up, the CSK management is confident about Dhoni playing at least one more season of the tournament, especially in Chennai, before he bids goodbye.

When asked about Dhoni’s fate in the cash rich league, a CSK official reportedly informed a news agency, “I don’t think so. Think he would like to play his last game at Chepauk, which is very likely.” Meanwhile, Dhoni recently hinted at playing one more season of IPL as well when he answered a fan’s question during a live session on CSK’s YouTube page. “When it comes to the farewell, you can come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So you will get the opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to Chennai and play my last game over there and (I) can meet all the fans,” he said.

However, Dhoni also later explained the uncertainties involved due to the addition of two new teams in IPL 2022. “You will see me in yellow next season but whether I will be playing for CSK you never know. There are a lot of uncertainties coming up; two new teams are coming. We don’t know what the retention rules are and so on,” Dhoni told commentator Danny Morrison before CSK’s final league match against Punjab Kings.
