Despite ending up at the bottom of the points table in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League and being the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs, MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings had an incredible season this year after winning their 4th IPL trophy. Several players, including the skipper himself, contributed towards the much awaited comeback.
However, it is not possible to know for certain if CSK will have the same squad moving forward. The mega auction, which is coming up this year, will only allow the existing IPL franchises to retain four of their players ahead of the 15th edition of the cash rich league. While a lot of speculations have been floating around as to which players the respective teams will decide to keep, reports suggest that captain MS Dhoni, reliable all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, young batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad, and either one of the successful overseas players in the team, between Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo, are likely to be retained by CSK ahead of the mega auction.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will apparently allow all IPL franchises to retain a maximum of four players in their teams before the mega auction which is expected to happen in December this year, and the teams can retain either three Indian players and one overseas player or two Indian players and two overseas players.
