The 23rd match of the ongoing season of IPL, held between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday was a low scoring affair, as the KKR scored just 108 runs, powered by Andre Russell's half century, and Chennai Super Kings won the match by 7 wickets, with 16 balls to spare.
Chennai Super Kings had gained early momentum in the match, as Deepak Chahar claimed three wickets in his opening spell, shaking KKR. He removed Chris Lynn who had been in fine form, and later dismissed Nitish Rana who got out to a poor shot. Robin Uthappa fell after scoring two boundaries, becoming Chahar's third wicket.
Thanks to his stunning spell, Deepak reduced KKR to 24/4, and during this spell, he also broke a record. Of the first 18 balls bowled by Deepak Chahar, 15 were dot balls, and all that he needed to do was bowl 5 more dot balls in his last over to break the record for most dot balls in an innings. The fact that Russell was in no mood to take singles meant that he scored one six, and Chahar got his 5 dot balls, and thus broke the previous record of 19 dot balls in IPL held by Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Fidel Edwards.
