After a 16-year-long glorious career, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 last year. Millions of fans across the world were left heartbroken but gracefully accepted his departure and expressed hopes of seeing the wicketkeeper-batsman yet again on field in the upcoming editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
While being asked about Dhoni's possible retirement from the cash rich league next year, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that Dhoni has no reason to retire and he is only adding value to the team. He stated, "He can continue for another one or two years with CSK. He is fully fit, trains a lot. Don’t see any reason why he should stop. As far we are concerned, we are happy with what he is doing for CSK. It is not just about his captaincy or the fact that he is the guide or a leader as the most experienced player. We feel he is still good and brings value as a player to the side. He has been a finisher and is doing that for us."
Dhoni, who is currently captaining CSK, led his team to the second spot on the points table in the 14th edition of the IPL, having secured 5 wins of 7 matches, before the tournament was suspended midway over concerns due to the pandemic. The matches will resume from the third week of September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
