Four months after a pet dog was tied to a car and dragged along the road in Kochi in December last year, yet another shameful inhuman act of animal cruelly has hit the headlines. In Kerala's Malappuram district, a man tied a dog behind his scooter using a rope and dragged it along the road. A video of the incident, that happened on Saturday, has gone viral on social media.
The Edakkara police in Kerala's Malappuram district arrested the man identified as 53-year-old Xavier, native of Karunechi. The video shot by the eyewitnesses, shows the dog struggling to run as Xavier rides his scooter. Later Xavier stopped the vehicle only after people's interventions. The tired animal was seen lying on the road and it was soon taken to a hospital. The dog suffered some injuries on its legs.
Reportedly, Xaviour had dragged his pet dog along the road for at least 3km to West Perumkulam before he was intercepted. He committed the gruesome act because the dog had a tendency to bite his slippers among other things at home.
The Police have booked the accused under Section 11 (1) (a) (torture or treating of any animal so as to subject it to unnecessary pain or suffering) of the Prevention of Cruelties to Animals Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with animal cruelty.
