Lokesh unveiled a brand-new poster of Rajinikanth from the film, announcing that the title teaser will be officially revealed on April 22, 2024.
The striking poster shared by Lokesh features Rajinikanth in a rugged yet stylish appearance, adorned with handcuffs made of golden wristwatches, against a backdrop of mechanical parts. The poster showcases Rajinikanth in a younger look, with a clock in the background symbolizing time, and Rajini handcuffed by a chain of watches.
Expressing his excitement, Lokesh Kanagaraj stated that the title reveal for 'Thalaivar 171' will be accompanied by a teaser video on April 22. The film is produced by Sun Pictures, and the technical crew includes Lokesh's regular collaborators Anirudh Ravichander for music and Anbariv for stunts.
In an interview, Lokesh Kanagaraj provided insights into the film's progress, mentioning that the pre-production work is ongoing. He revealed that the film is scheduled to begin filming in June and is expected to take around one to one-and-a-half years to complete. 'Thalaivar 171' marks the first collaboration between Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth. The film, launched in September 2023, is produced on a massive scale by Sun Pictures. Reports suggest that Sivakarthikeyan will also play a role in the film, but official updates regarding the cast and crew are yet to be announced. Rajinikanth's last film was Nelson Dilipkumar's 'Jailer', while Lokesh's last directorial was 'Leo', starring Vijay. Rajinikanth is currently filming for 'Vettaiyan', directed by TJ Gnanavel, while Lokesh is also set to direct 'Kaithi 2' starring Karthi.
Despite rumors, Lokesh Kanagaraj clarified during the launch of a music video starring him and Shruti Haasan that he is not transitioning to acting and remains focused on directing films. He reiterated that 'Thalaivar 171' will commence filming in June.
