Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has warned the people of his State of a complete lockdown if coronavirus aggravates in the State, which has got about 3.9 lakh active cases as of Saturday. With about 50,000 new cases cropping up in just a day earlier this week, the CM has said that the second wave is worse than the first wave.
"Today, I am giving an indication for a complete lockdown, but not announcing it formally. If things do not improve visibly in a couple of days and if no other solution is found, we will have to announce another lockdown like it is being done globally (sic)," Thackeray tweeted.
Complete lockdown, needless to say, will damage the economy badly. It's not like a total lockdown will help arrest the pandemic, which will anyway become virulent once restrictions are relaxed eventually.
Maharashtra has been a victim of government apathy and mismanagement. Small businesses will be brutally affected by a complete lockdown.
Meanwhile, India has got 6,58,909 active cases.
