The massive victory of the BJP-led NDA has unnerved the Opposition, political analysts are saying. Ever since the Lok Sabha results were out on May 23, there have been many indications that Congress party is in trouble in three States, while the SP-BSP alliance may be falling apart in Uttar Pradesh.
"Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav are splitting in UP. Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot are at war with each other in Rajasthan. Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu are battling for territory in Punjab. Congress and JDS are on tenterhooks in Karnataka," says Dr. Praveen Patil, a psephologist and political observer.
The rout of the Congress (read 52 seats) was unexpected. Rahul Gandhi, P Chidambaram and other leaders are apparently unable to control the chaos.
As for SP supremo and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, he seems to have made a mistake by allying with BSP before the elections. BSP's LS strength has gone up from zilch (in 2014) to ten without rendering a single benefit to his own party.
