When Kerala faced massive floods in 2018 and 2019, we got to see the more human side of actor Tovino Thomas with his involvement in relief activities. The actor was seen actively working with volunteers in relief camps, which was appreciated by all. Now as the country is battling against the coronavirus outbreak, the Mollywood sensation has announced that he will turn volunteer for the government activities to counter the cause.
“The social voluntary group aims to support health workers and awareness programmes of the government. As I belong in the age group between 21 and 44, I registered to volunteer in the group. Last day, over 3,000 people registered to volunteer for the force. Among the volunteers, around 1,465 people have expressed willingness to turn bystanders for the patients at isolation wards,” said Tovino Thomas in an interview with Club FM. Apart from him, several other actors have also registered as volunteers, said Tovino.
On March 27, Kerala Chief Minister announced to set up a 2,36,000-member community volunteer force to back up the effective service delivery of local self-governing bodies in the state in the wake of Covid 19. The state government has also set up a portal 'Sannadha' in which anyone between the age group of 22 years and 40 years is welcome to join the volunteer force and will be trained locally, said CM. The community volunteers will be issued ID cards and reimbursed travel expenses by local bodies.
