COVID-19: Third death reported in Kerala

On Saturday, Kerala reported one more COVID-19 death. The state's death toll is currently at three. The deceased is a Mahe native named Maharoof (71), who was under treatment at Pariyaram medical college. Reportedly, Maharoof was a heart patient and was also suffering from kidney disease.

On March 26 he had symptoms of fever and on 31st, he was admitted at a hospital in Thalassery after suffering from severe respiratory illness. Soon his conditions worsened and he was confirmed with COVID-19. He was then shifted to the Pariyaram medical college hospital.

The patient died before the state health department could fully trace the source from which he had contracted the disease. He is suspected to have contracted the virus from a person who returned from abroad. He had no travel history but he is said to have contracted with a large number of people and had attended prayers at a mosque, some functions including marriage and bride seeing ceremony along with his son. Many of those who came in contact with Mehroof during the said period has been quarantined.

At 364 total recorded cases, Kerala's death rate has been one of the lowest in the country.
