Scientist Eric Topol has estimated that the world would have seen more than 7.8 million deaths had all the countries been as bad as the US in controlling the coronavirus pandemic. The scientist has tabulated some interesting data points in this regard.

"As of now, there have been 1,759,604 global deaths. Had the rest of the world responded to the pandemic as the United States, 7,834,960 people would have died," Eric Topol's analysis says.

He says that 1 per 1,000 Americans have now died from Covid-19. For perspective, India has witnessed 1 death per 9,365 population. In the case of Japan, it is 1 death per 41,448 population. By a huge margin, Asian countries have performed far, far better than the US.

Eric further says, "Only 4 countries with a population of more than 20 million are worse. They are: UK, Italy, Spain, and Peru."

Meanwhile, top US government scientist Anthony Fauci has said that the worst of the pandemic may be yet to come in the US. "As holiday travel spreads the coronavirus, it will be worse than what it is now," he has been quoted as saying.
