COVID-19: Second death in Kerala, health officials puzzled

On Tuesday, Kerala has recorded its second COVID-19 death. The 68-year-old Abdul Azeez, a retired ASI, passed away at the Government Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum. He was on ventilator support for the last five days. He had suffered cardiac arrest and paralysis attack while on the life support system. The last rites would now be conducted according to the medical protocol and as per religious traditions.

Meanwhile, the health officials are puzzled as to how the man got infected as he had no recent history of foreign travel and never contacted the infected persons. The hospital authorities said that he had long term respiratory disease and underlying medical conditions which worsened his infection. Reportedly he had high blood pressure, thyroid-related ailments, and kidney dysfunction.

As he is said to have attended community gatherings like marriage, funeral, and prayer, health authorities are trying to initiate route map and traced based on this.

On Saturday, Kerala's first COVID-19 death was reported from Kochi. He was a 69-year-old man named Yakub Hussain Sait.
