There are reports that the Centre is going to intensify Covid-19 restrictions from January 14. On the 13th of this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a conference call with the Chief Ministers of different States.
There are fears that Covid-19 cases will go up if night curfews are not imposed. That's why the Centre is in favour of asking all States to strictly implement night curfews. Weekend curfews are in force in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among others. Night curfews are in force in large States like Andhra Pradesh. Telangana has not promulgated any such restrictions so far.
Meanwhile, good news is emerging from Mumbai. The city has reportedly peaked in terms of daily caseload. "Significant drop in Covid 19 positive cases in Mumbai. Today, 13,648 positive cases and five deaths are reported. Total tests 59,242," wrote a journalist on Monday night. The State of Maharashtra has already seen 90 per cent of eligible people receiving vaccination with one dose.
As per an expert, Delhi, too, will peak around January 15. Uttar Pradesh might peak in the last week of this month. The third wave is expected to be behind us by the first half of February.
