The government on Tuesday released the latest COVID-19 numbers in the country as of December 1, 08:00 AM. Here are the key numbers in a snapshot:
Confirmed cases: 94,62,809
Recovered: 88,89,585 (93.94%, which is highly encouraging)
Active cases: 4,35,603 (4.60%, which is low)
Deaths: 1,37,621 (1.45%, which continues to be low)
The government said that the daily recoveries exceeding new cases has ensured a total net reduction of the active caseload over the past few weeks.
Interesting facts:
About 9,70,000 samples were tested in the country in the last 24 hours.
As per government data, the number of cases in Kerala, whose population is 3.48 crores, is nearly equal to the total number of cases in all other Southern states put together. This proves that Kerala has failed to live up to the supreme expectations it had set this Summer.
Earlier in the week, Andhra Pradesh completed 1 crore sample tests. The Telugu State's active caseload is below 10,000 for the first time in close to 5 months.
Telangana's recovery rate slightly improved to 95.89% in the last 24 hours.
India seeks to vaccinate as many as 30 crore people by the end of July 2021.
