On Friday, Kerala reported a record 416 new COVID-19 cases. Addressing the media after the daily COVID review online, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan added that 112 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours in the state. This is the first time that Kerala has reported more than 400 cases.
Among the new cases, 123 people came from abroad and 51 from other states. Worryingly, the transmission of the virus through local contacts is surging as 204 people contracted the disease through contact on a single day.
Out of the 416 positive cases, 129 are reported from Thiruvananthapuram, 50 from Alappuzha, 41 from Malappuram, 32 from Pathanamthitta, 28 each from Palakkad and Kollam, 23 from Kannur, 20 from Ernakulam, 17 each from Thrissur and Kasaragod, 12 each from Kozhikode and Idukki, and 7 from Kottayam.
As the triple lockdown in a few districts of the state continues, the number of hotspots in the state increased to 193.
